Membership
Principal Members
Membership is open to National Veterinary Technician Associations of countries recognized by the African Union and other collaborating countries through regional economic blocks, provided that such associations are private organizations funded mainly by private subscription of its members and partnerships. Individual members are represented through their associations. Non-AU Veterinary Technicians Association members must be endorsed by all their AU counterparts through an absolute vote.
Private Membership
They include stakeholders and non-governmental organizations that add value to the animal resource industry. can be admitted as members for specified period but shall have no voting rights. Organizations other than national veterinary technicians’ associations may be granted private membership at general or special meetings of AVTA. prospective private members shall apply in writing to the honorary secretary of AVTA which application shall be laid before a properly constituted executive committee meeting for consideration and admission shall be on the unanimous vote of the executive committee members present and voting. In the event of there not being a unanimous vote for admission the application
Associate Membership
Shall consist of National Veterinary Regulatory Authorities in AU member countries or regulators of the veterinary practice for the various member associations. Para Veterinary Associations (including veterinary Para profession specialty groups/associations registered in member states of the AU that are not regarded as principal members can also be considered as Associate members once their application to join AVTA has been granted by the executive committee. Associate members shall have no voting rights.
Horonary Membership
This will be determined from time to time by the Executive Committee. Honorary membership may be offered by the executive committee to members of the affiliate Associations or to non- Paraveterinarians whom the Association considers to have rendered outstanding service to the veterinary Para profession in the region. They have no voting rights unless they additionally have been nominated to represent member associations.
Corporate Membership
Major regional sponsors and partners may be granted corporate membership for a specified by the Executive Committee of AVTA but shall have no voting rights. Prospective corporate members shall apply in writing to the Honorary Secretary of AVTA which application shall be laid before a properly constituted Executive Committee meeting for consideration and admission shall be on the unanimous vote of the Executive Committee members present and voting. In the event of there not being a unanimous vote for admission the application may be deferred to the next Executive Committee meeting on admission. They have no voting rights.
Executive Committee
The President, Immediate Past President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Council members and head of the Secretariat shall comprise a category of membership with no voting right save for the Council members and a casting vote by the President.
Obligations
Membership of AVTA will entail voluntary participation from member countries, while the member association’s obligation or individuals to take part in any AVTA activities shall be guided by AVTA Constitution and regulations. Members of AVTA choosing not to take part in any AVTA shall not stop others from doing so.
