Who We Are

History

Aware of the need to promote and improve the animal resource industry through the provision of Para professional veterinary and related services and the need to provide linkages and empower the African Veterinary Technicians Associations; Considering the need to provide leadership in the relevant areas concerning the Veterinary Para Professional Services as part of the regional integration efforts,  AVTA idea was born in 2013, following meeting of Southern And Eastern African Rabies Group (SEARG) in Tanzania where participants identified the role of VPPs as critical to animal disease control and in 2015 meeting in Pretoria South Africa resolved to form an association where the first election was done . The association has president and two vice presidents. Membership of AVTA is at association level by country. There is also provision for honorary and corporate membership.

Objectives

  1. To promote regional harmonization of veterinary paraprofessionals’ training standards and
    practice in animal resource industry in Africa.
  2. To promote the interests of all veterinary technicians in the animal resource industry to
    safeguard the profession in African region.
  3. To act as the official voice for professionalism in, veterinary technician professional
    practice on all matters involving animal resource industry in the region.
  4. To improve the value chain in animal resource industry
  5. To advocate for free movement of veterinary paraprofessional to practice across Africa.
  6. To lobby and advocate for policy, amendments and enactment of legislations regulating
    the veterinary paraprofessional practice.
  7. To promote synergy and networking among members of the association and public
    awareness
  8. To be able to attract funding to support activities that promote practice and delivery in the
    value chain for the benefit of the community receive.
  9. To collaborate with regional and international veterinary institutions, regional economic
    blocks, development partners and other animal resource industry stakeholders.
  10. To conduct any other activity that may promote the furtherance of the overall objective of
    the association.
